Do not Fear the Spotlight

Today’s message is from the Oracle Book: Answers to Life’s Questions by Georgia Routsis Savas. The Sun. Whenever I see the sun in a reading, I think of exposure. Wedding toasts. Eulogies. Reading your paper out loud in creative writing. Taking off your cover up during the first trip to the beach. Floodlights. Flash bulbs. The pure, early morning light coming through the bathroom window and landing on the face of a middle aged woman. The whole thing makes me very uncomfortable. You might have recently found yourself in the spotlight and today you woke up feeling like you came off looking like an ass. Maybe you told a joke in mixed company and it failed to land. You might have screwed up a presentation or stumbled during a speech. It’s possible you took the risk of flirting with someone new and got shut down. Whatever it may be, it’s not that bad. I promise. You’re the only one who’s thinking about it right now. Most people, thank GOD, are the center of their own worlds. If you feel like running away and hiding, try to resist the urge to do that. That’s your ego talking and the ego gives terrible advice. The devil pulls the strings when it comes to the fragile human ego. Shake it off. Walk it off. Laugh it off. Forget about it. Everyone else already has.

You will soon be required to take a leadership position. You might get a promotion, run for office, or head up a committee that deals with crucial local issues that will benefit everyone. You are the only one with the unique vision for this role. You are going to find yourself admired and respected … some days. On other days you will be challenged, belittled and humiliated. It is what it is. Anything big and important is going to draw fire from small minded people who consider you a threat. Don’t let that stop you. Step into the spotlight. You can do this.
