We are going to work hard, be productive, and act with integrity. But sometimes the world conspires against us. Maybe the commute is too long and you arrive at the office in a bad mood; maybe you do your best on a project but your efforts go unappreciated. A colleague steals a new client or hogs the credit for your efforts. You stub your toe crossing the street, drop your coffee, and a bike messenger nearly runs you over. The deal falls through; the delivery is lost; you can’t get through to that one student or the patient doesn’t recover the way you hoped. Work sucks. That’s why they call it work. Give it your best try today anyway. Your soul craves serving others, and when you stop doing that for a while you can get depressed. Get out there today and give it your best. You are making a difference even though you might not be able to see evidence of that right now. If nothing else, speak kindly to everyone today, no matter what else is going on. Kindness is in short supply in this weary world.
