Today’s message is from the Halloween Oracle. Zombie. Control. You may have to deal with some issues with control today. We all have them, so fine, let’s talk about them.
Who is trying to control you now? Someone is trespassing on your boundaries and you are about to blow. It might be that you are being micromanaged at work; someone who lives with you doesn’t like the way you load the dishwasher; a neighbor wants you to take down a tree or paint your own house a different color.
On the other hand, you might be the one who feels the need to have things all your own way. Why doesn’t everyone know how to replace a toilet roll properly, anyway? This is not rocket science.
The need to control the circumstances around us is very common. We all do it, even when we do not realize it is happening. It just feels better to have things be orderly according to our own plan. So much of our lives is out of our control – illness, loss of job, bereavement, family problems, pandemics – that it feels better when we can stay on top of things close to us, at least. A lot of people feel the need to stay in control because of childhood traumas. It makes sense. Childhood is a time when you have very little say about what happens around you. Depending on how you have grown up, that can make a deep impression. Sometimes people develop control issues in tandem with anxiety or depression. If you feel yourself hopskotching ahead too far in your mind in order to keep everything under control … it might be a good idea to talk to someone. Those types of mental gymnastics are just wearing you out. In the end, we can only do what we can in the present moment and then let it be. Know that you are doing your best, and so are the people around you. God is the only one who is really in control … but he’s got this.
