Today’s message is from the Mastery of Love cards by Don Miguel Ruiz. To master love, you must practice love. Many years ago, a Catholic priest told me the best definition of love that you can apply to people you can’t stand. “You do not have to like them; but if you love them the way God commands, you do not wish any harm to them.” You might not have started off 2021 in a loving mood. It is a new year with old problems. We are still confined to our homes, further shutdowns may be looming, and our democracy is in turmoil. The desire to help others who are struggling with this pandemic more visibly and volubly is wearing thin. You may feel out of hope, out of money, and out of patience. I know I do. It’s okay to admit that you are at your breaking point right now. Most of us have been tested beyond our limits over the last ten months. If you feel that you can’t help out, take a break. Retreat to your lair. You still have to work, but limit your exposure to others as much as you can, especially people who push your buttons. If you are going to lose your temper with someone it is not going to be with a friend or family member who is ill or truly suffering; but you might be tempted to go off on a chronic complainer. Remember who you are and curb that impulse when it arises. Ask God to help you get the rest, find the peace, and see the humor in the midst of chaos now. Even if you feel like you hate everyone, try not to hurt anyone. You might find yourself at a low point, but this will pass. I promise. It HAS to 🙂 Have a great day.
