Today’s message is from the Faery Forest Oracle by Lucy Cavendish. SOUL KIN. It has started. Can you sense it? We have now embarked on the madcap toboggan ride that culminates on New Year’s Day. Please keep hands, feet, and smart remarks inside the vehicle.

There is no doubt about it, the holidays can be trying. There is bound to be someone at the dinner table on Thursday who has strong opinions about the presidential election, same sex marriage, or the Catholic Church. Your healthy boundaries may be tested. Your peace of mind could be disturbed. Your life choices can and will be criticized, maybe to your face but most definitely behind your back on the ride home. Remember who you are and deflect any invitations to fight. “Uncle Mike, can I get you another beer? Mom, this squash is out of this world. You have outdone yourself. I am running out for more ice. Save me some pie!” Consider the audience and save your breath when you are tempted to try to “educate” someone this holiday season. We all do it. I have tried myself and that’s how I know. But nothing you say is going to change someone’s mind, especially a stubborn relative who remembers when you were three and you peed in their pool 🙂 These people are family. They don’t respect you. This is not your TRIBE, though. Beyond the stuffy confines of the Thanksgiving dining room table, you have friends and loved ones who value you and see you the way you really are. So paste on a smile, ride out dinner, then spend some time with the people who really get you. Christmas is still four weeks away 🙂
